Dear Caroline Cannar,

Thank you for your reply.

The information that you are providing gives one an insight into the culture and ethics of Rethink which is very helpful indeed.

We shall see if there are examples of best practice for others to follow working from the moral high ground in righteousness.

I look forward to the further information.

Kind regards

Derrick Lynch, IC3, B9, BEUR, Black, Male,
Victim of Racism.

Dear Derrick

Thank you for your reply.  I am pleased that you found the information I provided helpful.

In answer to your questions 4 and 5, current data is that Rethink is caring for 8,079 people through its services in England.  Of those that provided ethnicity data, approximately 67% are white.

In answer to questions 6 and 7, I am a white woman and no, I am not a Racist.

I will come back to you on the internal data requested as I do not have access to this myself.

Dear Derrick

My name is Caroline Cannar and I am Company Secretary for the Charity.

I understand you have asked about our Policy on Race Relations and have asked us the following questions:

Please could you let me know who is responsible for Race Relations at Rethink.

Does Rethink have an effective Race Relations policy?

How is Race Relations monitored at Rethink?

Race Relations fall under our Equality & Diversity Policy.  I believe that you have been provided with a copy.

As an employer we take Race Relations very seriously and endeavour to provide discrimination-free services and workplaces for staff.

Responsibility for Equality and Diversity lies within the Quality & Service Improvement Team, which is led by our Associate Director for Quality & Service Improvement.  He, in turn, reports to the Chief Operating Officer and she to the Chief Executive.

We work on the basis that everyone that works for Rethink Mental Illness has personal responsibility for ensuring Race Relations are effective.  However, any specific initiatives would be led by the Quality & Service Improvement Team.

We ask that everyone who uses a Rethink service completes a monitoring form.  Details are entered on to the Rethink Information System (RIS) database and held confidentially.  We use the data to provide monitoring information for bodies that commission our services and also to benchmark diversity.  Such information is anonymous and provides assurance that our services are accessed by a diverse range of people.  I have just asked a colleague to provide me with data and the report shows that currently, of those that provided the information, 11.03% of people who use Rethink services are from BME communities.

Similarly, all Rethink Workers are asked to complete a Workforce Monitoring form.  Again, this is held on a secure, confidential database from which we can provide details about the diversity of the workforce.

I can confirm that Rethink Mental Illness has not had a finding of race discrimination made against it in any Court or Tribunal.  If there are any allegations that a member of staff has been the perpetrator of racial abuse, whether to another member of staff or a user of one of our services, we would take prompt action and carry out an investigation.  The Disciplinary Policy makes it clear that discriminatory behaviour is viewed as gross misconduct and this would normally lead to summary dismissal.

We also maintain a Safeguarding database on which are recorded all complaints, incidents and serious untoward incidents.  Any actual or alleged breaches of Equality legislation are recorded on this database.  We have a group that meets monthly, of which I am Chair, that monitors complaints and serious incidents and has an overview if there are any acts that might amount to discrimination.  This group would pick up any information that would indicate breaches of Equality legislation, including Race Relations.

I hope that my response provides you with assurance that the Charity is committed to ensure good Race Relations both for its staff and service users.

Dear Paula Holt,

OK.

Thank you for that information.

This process will help us all find out who the Racists are, if there are any to be found, hiding in positions of power.

The White Supremacists are the smartest, cleverest, most sophisticated, most deceptive people in the known world.
Did you know that?

URGENT!

Dear Rethink,

Thank you for sending me the Rethink Equality and Diversity Policy documents.

I look forward to receiving evidence on how Rethink has been performing relative to the Rethink Equality and Diversity Policy.
I look forward to your report.

Who is the person responsible for measuring the performance of Rethink in Race Relations?
What has been the performance to date?

I am a Black, male, person and as a resident I want to see written evidence that patients, service users and staff are not being racially abused.

I hope that this inquiry gives Rethink the opportunity to display a splendid record in Race Relations matters that will serve as a good example of best practice for others to follow.

Kind regards
