Public relations
Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the flow of information between an organization and its publics.[1] Public relations provides an organization or individual exposure to their audiences using topics of public interest and news items that do not require direct payment.[2] The aim is often to persuade the public, investors, partners, employees and other stakeholders to maintain a certain point of view about the company, its leadership, products or of political decisions. Common activities include speaking at conferences, winning industry awards, working with the press, and employee communication.
“I don’t give a monkey’s”, Boris tells black conference
“I don’t give a monkey’s about the name of the conference”, Boris Johnson told his education conference today, following controversy over the dropping of the word ‘black’ from the title. Attendance was massively down on previous years, with large blocks of empty seats.
The London mayor said he just wanted the conference to go ahead after Labour MP Diane Abbott had left the project she began nine years ago in disgust at City Hall’s desire to fill the platform with Right-wing speakers. Friends of the MP said she wanted nothing to do with the event.
Entrenched enmities at play in race for London's mayor
"...Johnson himself would not respond directly to whether he considered himself a "Thatcherite" in taking on train drivers' unions. So was being a Thatcherite a bad thing?
"No. Well you know, I'm in favour of progress," he said."
In all four main cases, the areas had large ethnic minority communities, who had largely come from the Commonwealth in the 1960s and 1970s to do low paid jobs. All the areas suffered from poor housing, high unemployment and particular problems with racial tensions.
On 25 August 2004, Thatcher was arrested at home in Constantia, Cape Town, South Africa. He was charged later that day with contravening two sections of South Africa's "Foreign Military Assistance Act", which bans South African residents from taking part in any foreign military activity. The charges related to "possible funding and logistical assistance in relation to [an] attempted coup in Equatorial Guinea" organized by Thatcher's friend, Simon Mann.
From 2006 to 2009, Thatcher was a freelance contributor to the BBC One magazine programme The One Show, making regular filmed reports and joining the presenters and guests in the studio for discussions. On 3 February 2009, British media reported that during the 2009 Australian Open Thatcher had, in a conversation in the show's green room, referred to a black[13] tennis player, reportedly Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, as a golliwog.
